chill emails

It has come to our attention that we might not be receiving all of the emails sent to info@bitnotic.com, especially chill-related emails. We seem to be getting a good number of VX-323 emails, and a whole lot of solicitations for watches and, er, prescription drugs.

We respond to all emails except for the VX-323 Leopard list, so if you did not hear back from us, please try resending your email. We have disabled all spam blocking on our server, so hopefully all of the emails will come through now. Remember that these emails are your entry into the chill Feedback contest...you can still enter for beta 2...we will probably be adding a bunch of features for chill 1.0, so any feedback is welcomed.

Muchas gracias!

En vacance

Bitnotic will be taking a short break. So don't get all bent out of shape if your emails or forum posts aren't answered before June 27, 2008. We will get to them the second we get back.

On our return, we will finish up the second Bitnotic chill beta, then wrap up the long awaited symphonic VX-323 piece, and then get cracking on VX-323, version 2.0. Lots of exciting stuff in store for the second half of 2008!

Thanks for all of your support!

Updated Web Site + New chill Song

We streamlined the Web site here and there, so that it hopefully looks less like a 14-year old designed it in 1997. Changes include a new Flash player for the various radios (Bitnotic, chill, and VX-323), a consolidated downloads page, and a less-daunting store page. We're keeping some of the structure so as not to break links.

Also, we have posted a new chill-derived song, The Arrow of Gold, which was created by chill, exported as MIDI to Logic Express, and mixed and mastered in that fine program. It's available on Bitnotic Radio. This one builds, so if you've got a few minutes, listen to it through, or download it and listen on your iPod later.

re: chill

Thanks to everyone who has downloaded chill. Hopefully you like it. If you do, if you sort of do, even if you don't, we really want to hear from you and let us know how you feel about it. Really, any kind of feedback is appreciated. Even suggestions like, "I want it to sound like this particular Philip Glass piece." Or even "More Soundgarden-like." Any feedback is good. You can post it to the forums or email it to us directly at info@bitnotic.com. Either method will also get you entered into our feedback contest!

We are working hard on Beta 2 already. Some neat stuff in store. We're adding instruments, new parts, and some goodies for you DJ-types and electronic musicians, too.

Mellow Out, Man - chill Beta 1 is Here!

We are excited to announce a new kind of product, Bitnotic chill, and you can download a free beta today. chill is a Mac application that plays generative ambient music. You can listen to chill and you can save royalty-free songs to use however you like. Check it out and let us know what you think. You may even win a free license for chill 1.0 in our contest!

Our plan is to release two betas. Once everyone seems cool with the software, chill will retail electronically for US$19.95...that's barely more than the price of one CD, and you'll never have to buy a New Age record again!

  • In the studio, we are putting together a short symphonic piece featuring VX-323 singing, for those of you interested in VX-323 for music other than techno.

Happy Holidays + Leopard Update

Bitnotic hopes you are all having a great holiday season and that you are all looking forward to a great 2008, full of electronic music and synthesized speech. We especially salute those of you checking out our website on Christmas day!

We are working hard on a version of the VX for Leopard. It will also work on 10.3.9 and 10.4. This will be a pretty radical update...if you are even moderately excited by VX-323, you will absolutely love this solution. Can't really say much more than that right now. However, if you purchase VX-323, this will be a FREE update when available.

In the meantime, you can look forward to VX-323 1.0.1 in the coming week. This will fix a few minor bugs in version 1.0 and add one or two small features.

VX-323 1.0 Ships!

Bitnotic is even more excited than we usually are, now that VX-323 1.0 is officially shipping! We have added some amazing features since the last beta (like a phonetic editor), fixed many bugs, and enhanced the user interface. You really can't not like this software. Download the 1.0 package and give it a spin.

One or two other things to mention. We had to punt at the last minute on Mac OS X 10.3.9 and Mac OS X 10.5.0 support. We will have an update out with Mac OS X 10.5 support ASAP. There's just one feature that doesn't work. We can report that VX-323 sounds even better on 10.5 and that Alex is quite eloquent. So check back soon. It might be a week or it might be a month. But soon.

As for 10.3.9, Beta 2 ran on 10.3.9, but we were quite never satisfied with the the audio functionality. It's unfortunately an Apple technology at the root of the issue, and not one that can be fixed per se. But if people were happy with Beta 2 on 10.3.9, we can revisit that soon. Please let us know.

Finally, we set the introductory price of VX-323 at $59.95 until January 1, 2008, then it will go up to $79.95. We feel good that this is a great value for an innovative, useful, and fun audio tool. If you disagree, please let us know and we will see what we can do to change you mind.

Ciao!

Beta Users: 1.0 Heads Up

First of all, thanks to everyone who has downloaded VX-323, and especially those who have provided feedback (even questions!). We hope that you have found VX-323 to be a useful instrument in your electronic music studio. As we put the finishing touches on 1.0, the beta process is winding down. In fact, Beta 2 is set to expire on November 1, 2007. So if you are in the middle of a project, or want to get a some free VX-323 in your songs, you have about 9 days. Note that any saved VX-323 instruments will open in 1.0 and can take full advantage of new features.

Bitnotic has been working very hard on VX-323 1.0 since Beta 2. Not only are there many bug fixes, big and small, but there are many new features and user interface improvements. Some make working with VX-323 easier, some greatly expand its speech and audio capabilities. Check back next week for full details. We think you will be blown away.

There will be a special introductory price until January 1, 2008.

Logic 8 + When You're Gone

For all of you that are afraid to upgrade to Logic 8 for fear of incompatibility with VX-323, worry no longer. After exhaustive testing, Bitnotic can certify that Logic 8 is fully compatible with VX-323. We've added a link to purchase Logic 8 Express through Amazon in the Bitnotic store. This package is AWESOME and if you buy it through our link, it will help support VX-323 development.

In other news, the artist currently known as The VX-323 has created another masterwerk, called When You're Gone, which is listenable in its entirety on VX-323 MySpace.

The Wait is Almost Over!

We are wrapping up development on our next release, which will formally be VX-323 1.0. You should be pretty excited about this! In addition to some killer new features, we have been cleaning up rough edges in the user interface. Small things, but they make a huge difference - we have been using them while working on some new material and already find them indispensable.

In the meantime, the VX-323 unit has finally cleaned up Factory Blues so it is listenable. Check out the sample on the VX-323 Audio page or listen to the whole song on MySpace.

VX-323 Breaks Out on MySpace!

Bitnotic is pleased to announce that the VX-323 unit now has its own MySpace page. VX-323 will continue his music career outside of the Bitnotic umbrella, although we made sure to get a piece of whatever action he winds up getting. We've also retained the right to post samples of his songs, rather than the whole MP3 like we have been. So for the real Robot Radio, go visit his MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/vx323). There, you can listen to the songs in full, read his music blog (full of behind the scenes gossip), and do whatever else the kids are doing on the Internet these days.

Bitnotic will of course continue to release new versions of VX-323, as well as some other new software that is in the pipeline. Enjoy!

Singin' the Factory Blues

In the tradition of Don't Give Up by Peter Gabriel and Allentown by Billy Joel comes Factory Blues, a surefire hit about a robot who is down on his luck. We tracked down a crack team of Swedish producers to help out with the song writing and supply that pop sheen that is tearing up the charts these days. Factory Blues features the soulful voice of Zarvox. Check it out on the VX-323 Audio page.

Beta 2 Now Available!!

Bitnotic is pleased to announce that VX-323 1.0b2 is now available! There are bug fixes, additional compatibility (10.3 support!), and a few new features, like SysEx. Have fun!

Of course, we are already working on Beta 3, so please feel free to report any bugs or especially feature suggestions on the Bitnotic forums.

We also look forward to hearing any music you make that uses VX-323, so let us know!

Redesigned Web Site

Okay, we canned our old Web design firm and took the Web site development back in house. After all that time and money committed to the old site, someone pointed out that it looked like they just used RapidWeaver or something to whip it together. So we figured we could do it just as well ourselves. Or hopefully at least slightly better.

Calm Before the Storm...

Laptop has reached version 1.1, with a kicking bassline and re-recorded vocals...note that the vox panning is correct now. There is also now a new song sample, Super Mec, recorded in French. Try doing that with VX-323 beta 1...you can't! There are a few other goodies on the way. Soon...

In business news, we decided to remove the Google ads from the site. We were having tax issues with all of the $$$$$ it was generating - there isn't enough wood in the US to build a shelter big enough for it all. But those of you that came looking for vox software but clicked through to Over 20lbs in 9 Days, we salute you.

New Song (Laptop) + Logic Tutorial Posted

VX-323 has dropped its first single, Laptop, a pop song sung by Junior with backing vocals from Whisper. This is a song about obsessive love, from the point of view of a laptop computer. Check it out at the VX-323 Audio page.

A detailed tutorial on using VX-323 with Logic Express and Logic has been posted on the new VX-323 Support page. If you use these programs, there hopefully should be no further questions about integrating the two pieces of software.

VX-323 Beta 2 will be released shortly. Watch this space for updates!

History of VX-323

For those who are curious, we have posted a fairly thorough history of the VX-323 hardware. Go to the VX-323 product page, and then click the "History" tab to view it. Also note that version 1.0b2 is chugging along. Please pass along any bugs or suggestions!

VX-323 Beta 1 Available

At long last, the beta is ready! Visit the VX-323 product page to download it. Make some cool tunes and please pass along any feedback and bug reports on the appropriate forums.

Bitnotic Site Update

In addition to this news tidbit, the rest of the site has been expanded, updated, and reconfigured to provide forums, more product info about VX-323, and a contact form. If something is broken, please let us know. Otherwise, enjoy!

VX-323 Rapidly Approaching Liftoff

The extra development effort on VX-323 has paid off, with increased performance, sound quality, and flexibility. A beta preview is currently under way. Once that is over, the beta goes public...pssst...check back the week after Thanksgiving (week of Nov. 27, 2006).

VX-323 Development Update

Well, of course it's taking longer than anticipated. However, we are going the extra mile for you electronic musicians and are taking extra steps for studio compatibility and audio quality. Stay tuned for VX-323 feature details.

Bitnotic Store News

We have added Amazon links to a few music-related items that we heartily endorse. Purchasing them through our links will help fund the development of VX-323 and other slick products. Thanks!

Web Site Created…

Thanks for visiting Bitnotic.com! The first release of the web site serves as a sneak peak of VX-323. More information about this software will be available soon, including instructions for participating in the public beta program. In the meantime, you can listen to two brief samples on the home page.

Future site improvements include discussion boards for the VX-323 community, the Bitnotic store (featuring stylish, high-quality merchandise), and hopefully some fun surprises.
